Rural Generalist Training Pathway

Rural Generalist Training Pathway

Associate Professor Marco Briceno launched the Rural Generalist Training Pathway this week!

The Rural Generalist Training Pathway provides an exciting foundation training opportunity for a general medical career path in the Territory.

Rural generalists are specialised GPs who bring a broad set of advanced skills and services to Territorians living in rural and remote communities.

Marco completed his Rural Generalist training in East Arnhem and has worked in the region for the last 13 years as a Rural Generalist Surgeon and Regional Director of Medical Services.

“I am committed to growing Rural Generalism and am actively involved with medical education and training,” he said.

“Although we are formally launching this pathway today, we have been investing in Rural Generalist training for some time and I want to acknowledge the work that many people have done that’s laid the foundations of the formal pathway.”

“We aim to offer a better training experience and an integrated journey to future generalists, and to make this rewarding career move visible and more attractive to doctors in training.”
