Rain fails to dampen Queen’s relay for Helen Summers in Darwin

Rain fails to dampen Queen’s relay for Helen Summers in Darwin

IT WAS a case of will it or won't it continue as a huge storm rolled in over Darwin, 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Queen’s Relay Batonbearers waited.

After waiting over an hour for the Darwin weather to calm, Helen Summers (Chair - HPANT) began her relay at the top of the Mitchell Street Mall after being passed the baton from Alicia Kent.

Crowds still lined the streets showing their support and cheering the remaining Batonbearers as they made their way to the Darwin Waterfront to complete the Northern Territory Leg of the Relay.

The baton will now continue through Queensland before Prince Charles reads the Queen’s message, enclosed inside it, at the opening of the Games.
